The round of interviews BTS did the other day where they were sitting down and reporters come to interview them for several minutes, is part of what we call a PRESS JUNKET.
Prior to the journalists sitting down with them, journalists are already GIVEN A GUIDE in terms of what the company want to highlight about the artist or the project.
If you would notice, the junkets of movies, the same thing happen. Actors are being asked the same question over and over again. It’s because it’s included in the guide (we don’t call it a guide. it’s just the word I use to make it easier to understand). The company does this in an effort to make sure what they want people to know will be written about.
The same question is being asked not because journalists are too dumb to come up with something unique. these are US journalists. if they were given ultimate freedom to ask questions, they’d probably be asking something juicier and more controversial.
Usually, the guides contain at least 3 topics that journalists must ask.
The guide also contains things journalists ARE NOT ALLOWED TO ASK OR EVEN MENTION. A publicist or media team is there to stop the interview if journalists even so much as allude to the banned topics.
Journalists are given the freedom to come up with their own questions but it has to be pre-approved by the company (management company and publicists).
